Call to Apply for SERISS Training on Measurement Quality

Following the recent membership of Serbia to the European Social Survey (ESS ERIC), Serbian social science researchers are now eligible for different trainings and capacity building programmes funded by H2020, the first of which is the SERISS Training on Measurement Quality and Correction for Measurement Error.

Synergies for Europe’s Research Infrastructures in the Social Sciences (SERISS), aims to equip Europe’s social science data infrastructures to play a major role in addressing the key societal challenges facing Europe today and ensure that national and European policymaking is built on a solid base of the highest-quality socio-economic evidence. The project brings together leading European Research Infrastructures in the social sciences, one of which is the European Social Survey (ESS ERIC).

The training for 25 participants will be held on 26-27 February 2018 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The course will be instructed by Diana Zavala-Rojas and Wiebke Weber from Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM), Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain.

The course will discuss the issues related to measurement error in survey research and the consequences for the results of the research. It will offer different methods to estimate and predict measurement error and show how this information can be used for the improvement of survey questions before data collection, and for the correction for measurement error in data analysis.

The course is aimed at Doctoral Candidates at all stages, Postdoctorates from Humanities and Social Sciences and quantitative research practitioners.

There will be no tuition fees or accommodation costs for all participants, who will be selected from the applications received. Lunch will be provided on both days and a group dinner will be held on the first evening.

Participants will need to cover their travel costs, though there are a limited number of SERISS grants available to cover travel costs for participants whose financial constrains would prevent them from being able to attend.

As PERFORM has supported Serbia’s accession to ESS ERIC, it is now offering to sponsor 70% of the travel costs of those participants who do not meet the criteria for the grant. If your application for the training is successful, please contact ESS Serbia National Coordinator Dragan Stanojevic at draganstanojevich@gmail.com or Nevenka Stankovic at nevenka.stankovic@helvetas.org

The deadline for applications is 4 December 2017. The results of the selection will be known by 15th December 2017.
